The Importance of Figuring Out What You Truly Want in Life

In a world that’s constantly pulling us in multiple directions, it’s easy to lose sight of what we truly want. But the reality is, understanding what you want in life is essential if you’re going to manifest it. You can’t hit a target you can’t see, and you can’t manifest desires that aren’t clear. This is why it’s so important to take the time to figure out what you want, get specific about it, and embed those desires deep into your subconscious mind.

Getting Specific: The Key to Manifestation

Manifestation isn’t just about wishing for something and hoping it magically appears. It’s about being crystal clear on what you want and then aligning your thoughts, feelings, and actions to bring it into reality. When you get specific about your desires, you’re sending a clear message to your subconscious mind about what to focus on. Vague desires lead to vague results. If you want to create a life that truly reflects your deepest wishes, you must first know exactly what those wishes are.

The Power of Journaling by Hand

One of the most effective ways to clarify your desires is through journaling, and not just by typing, but by writing them out by hand. There’s a science behind this. When you write by hand, you engage more of your brain’s sensory and motor regions, which helps to deeply embed your desires into your subconscious. The physical act of writing slows you down, giving you the time and space to truly process your thoughts and feelings. This isn’t just about creating a list; it’s about connecting with your innermost desires on a deeper level.

Creating the Space to Listen to Yourself

Often, the reason we don’t know what we want is that we’ve never been taught to ask ourselves this question. As adults, we may realise that we’ve been living according to others’ expectations rather than our own desires. This is why it’s crucial to carve out quiet time for yourself, free from distractions. During this time, start to journal by hand. Don’t worry if the answers don’t come immediately—this is a practice that takes time and patience.

You might start by simply asking yourself, “What do I want?” and then let the thoughts flow. Over time, as you continue this practice, you’ll begin to unlock the answers that have been buried under the noise of everyday life. Only you can determine what you truly want, and this clarity will come from quieting your mind and listening to those subtle whispers from within.

The Technique That Changed My Life

A technique that I’ve found incredibly useful in my own life, especially during times when I’ve felt burnt out or uncertain about my direction, is inspired by Bob Proctor’s advice: to journal by hand daily, starting with the prompt, “I am so happy and grateful right now that….” This simple practice has been transformative.

When I was feeling burnt out and yearning for more, I began to write statements like, “I’m so happy and grateful right now that I have a private practice that allows me to work from home, around my kids' school schedule, while also doubling my income.” Or, “I’m so happy and grateful that I’ve bought a character home, with the potential to renovate, that is within walking distance to my kids’ school.” The more I wrote, the more I began to see these desires take shape in my life. It wasn’t magic; it was the power of getting specific, aligning my energy with my desires, and embedding those desires into my subconscious through the act of writing.

Patience and Persistence Pay Off

Remember, this process takes time. Don’t be discouraged if the answers don’t come right away. You’re building a new habit, and like any new habit, it requires practice and persistence. Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and know that with each journal entry, you’re getting closer to uncovering what you truly want in life.

Figuring out what you want in life is not just important—it’s essential for manifesting your desires. By taking the time to get specific, journaling by hand, and connecting with your subconscious mind, you can create a clear vision for your life and start to make it a reality. Remember, only you can determine what you truly want, so give yourself the time and space to listen to those inner whispers and start writing your future into existence.
